Giving Back: Save the Children

Two sisters in London started this organization in 1919 to help starving children in the aftermath of World War I. The charity has since grown into a massive international network, and it remains one of the most well-respected groups of its kind. Its philosophy is based on the U.N. Declaration of the Rights of the Child (created in 1959 by Save the Children), which outlines basic rights such as protection from abuse and the right to full development. Today, Save the Children operates in 120 countries and provides emergency, health, nutrition, and education services. The group believes that “by transforming children’s lives now, we change the course of their future and ours.”
