“When you get into the larger aircraft it becomes like a hotel, with dozens of staff supporting the plane based in a galley area down below. You have very comprehensive cooking facilities, and on larger aircraft we have looked at theatres, with spiral staircases and a Steinway grand piano. The limitations for what you can put inside a plane are pretty much the limits of physics, and even money cannot always overcome that. Even so, people are still always trying to push [the limits]. ”
New engines propel HondaJet in test flight flight
HondaJet has completed the first flight of its FAA-conforming advanced light business jet. The aircraft employs the GE Honda Aero HF120 engine, which is more powerful than the Honda-designed and -built HF118 used in the prototype HondaJet. In addition, its production-conforming cockpit features the Garmin G3000 touchscreen-controlled avionics system.
The conforming HondaJet performed much better than the prototype because of the more powerful engines and drag reductions that engineers were able to achieve in the latest airframe, according to Honda Aircraft Company president and CEO Michimasa Fujino. "Static stability is much better," he said, "and damping characteristics are better."
Five conforming HondaJets are planned, and deliveries are set to begin in the third quarter of 2012.
