Giving Back: Samaritan's Purse
BJT readers—who represent one of the highest-net-worth magazine audiences anywhere—clearly have the means to contribute to a better world. To help you do that, we’re spotlighting one deserving organization per issue. All of them have received a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator (charitynavigator.org), which evaluates philanthropic institutions based on their finances, accountability and transparency.
Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org) was created in 1970 to help those impacted by war, poverty, natural disaster, disease and famine. Its initiatives include emergency relief, to meet desperate needs of victims worldwide by providing life-saving food, supplies and shelter; women’s programs aimed at maternal and child health and preventing gender-based violence; and medical missions that send doctors, equipment and medicine to underprivileged countries. Samartian’s Purse also promotes community development and vocational programs to help people break the cycle of poverty. A particularly moving initiative is the group’s Operation Christmas Child, which delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to approximately eight million poor children in more than 100 countries each year.
Please note that Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization. BJT considers charities based on their body of work, not their religious affiliations. We encourage you to review the beliefs a charity stands for before donating to make sure they harmonize with your own.
