Bombardier's Bizjet Orders in the Red

Because of cancellations, Canadian manufacturer Bombardier logged 85 negative net orders for its Learjet, Challenger and Global business jets in the fiscal year ended January 31. The company delivered 176 business jets during the year, compared with 235 in the previous fiscal year. "The global economic crisis that began in 2008 continued to impact the civil aviation industry throughout 2009 as conditions remained challenging," said Bombardier Aerospace president and COO Guy Hachey (in photo). "While indicators of market stabilization have started to emerge, we remain cautious as economic uncertainty still prevails. We have taken significant steps to strengthen our operations and continue to invest significantly in future programs." Bombardier expects business aircraft deliveries to be about 15 percent less in the current fiscal year than in the year ended January 31.
