Physicians for Human Rights

Since 1986, Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has provided evidence, data, and research to support allegations of human-rights violations not only to prevent future abuses but also to ensure the prosecution of perpetrators. The health professionals of PHR—with their specialized skills, ethical duties, and credible voices—use epidemiology, medical and psychological evaluations, autopsies, forensic anthropology, and crime-scene analysis to document serious abuses, including murder, torture, rape, starvation, forced displacement, and civilian attacks. 

Winner of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, PHR has exposed the use of chemical weapons against civilians in Iraq and carried out exhumations of mass graves in Bosnia and Rwanda for international tribunals. The group works to prevent small acts of violence from expanding into mass atrocities; protect internationally guaranteed rights of civilians; and prosecute those who violate human rights.
