Satcom Direct Launches Bizav Cyber Security Course

Business aviation connectivity expert Satcom Direct has launched a cyber security course for those who interface support or interact with the aircraft communications systems, including crew, flight department members, and passengers. Dubbed CyberSAFE (Securing Assets For End users) and developed by Logical Operations, the course educates participants about technology-related risks and provides practical solutions to this emerging threat to business and industry. CyberSAFE is a component of the company’s suite of cyber security services, which was launched in October.

The course is designed to inform end users about what to do and what not to do, as well as to help them understand security compliance considerations, social engineering, malware, and other data-security-related concepts.

“Something as innocent as opening an email or clicking on links, or even using an infected USB drive in a network computer, can result in a serious breach,” said Satcom Direct director of training Mark Mata. “It’s surprising how little thought many of us give to cyber security in our day-to-day actions, but cyber attacks are on the increase. Human error has been identified as the leading cause of cyber security incidents, and end-user education is one of the top ways to prevent network infection.”

The three-hour course is designed for self-paced learning, but it also can be delivered in person and via online live instructor-led sessions. It is followed by an online assessment, which upon successful completion delivers students the Certified CyberSAFE credential.

Satcom Direct also launched its free international cyber seminar series at AfBAC Expo 2017 in Johannesburg last week. These short workshops help attendees better understand cyber security and provide an overview of the company’s cyber security solutions.

Next year, Satcom Direct will also offer a Cyber Security Risk Management course to flight departments to support their understanding of the implications of, and resolutions to, cyber attacks. Approved by the National Business Aviation Association as part of its Professional Development Program, the course will make its debut in June during the NBAA’s annual training day. The course will be part of the NBAA’s Certified Aviation Manager credential.
