Signature Opens New Seattle FBO

The $11.5 million facility at Boeing Field/King County International Airport features the latest green technologies.

Signature Flight Support recently opened its newest FBO at Boeing Field/King County International Airport (BFI) in Seattle. The $11.5 million, 6,250-sq-ft executive terminal includes meeting rooms, pilot lounges, and a full-service customer desk.

The project, part of a local airport redevelopment initiative in cooperation with the Boeing Field King County Airport and the King County Water and Land Resources Department, features an experimental system for storm-water management. That system will be monitored in years to come, as environmental officials mull whether it should become the gold standard for airport facilities at BFI and elsewhere.

Built on the site of a demolished FBO and hangar, the new facility does not yet include a hangar. But that will soon change, according to Signature president and CEO Maria Sastre. “We’re working on a hangar opportunity on the field as we speak," she said at the opening reception. “So I’m hopeful that in the next year, we’ll be able to provide a solution for customers who would like to be tenants with Signature at Boeing Field.” In the meantime, Signature’s ramp area is large enough to accommodate “super-heavy jets," she noted.

The new facility is Signature’s second in the Seattle area, and replaces the older FBO the company acquired in its purchase of Landmark Aviation. The BBA Aviation subsidiary also operates an FBO at Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA), just south of Boeing Field.
