Executive Jet Management

Touting itself as the “largest aircraft management and charter service in the world,” NetJets subsidiary Executive Jet Management operates globally, managing more than 230 aircraft and offering air charter service through on-demand and flat-rate programs.

Former Cessna Aircraft salesman and demonstration pilot Joseph Moeggenberg founded the company as American Air Services at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati in 1977. Executive Jet Aviation, based in nearby Columbus, Ohio, acquired the company in 1988, changing its name to Executive Jet Management while retaining Moeggenberg as president and CEO. He remained with EJM until 1995, when he left to found Aviation Research Group/US (ARGUS).

Berkshire Hathaway bought EJM’s parent company in 1998, renaming it NetJets in 2002. That year, EJM reached the 100-aircraft-managed mark. Adding all managed aircraft to its FAA Part 135 charter certificate, the company maintained a fleet of around 100 airplanes until NetJets’ Benjamin Murray became EJM president and CEO in 2007. He set goals to double the size of the managed fleet and instituted a program to manage aircraft whose owners didn’t want them on a charter certificate. As of February 2021, only 126 of EJM’s 236 managed aircraft were on its charter certificate.

EJM initiated a Support Services program to flight departments and aircraft owners in 2012, offering cost savings on fuel and crew training plus VIP access to FBOs in key cities. Also that year, the company established a regional base in Lisbon, Portugal; and NetJets began a foray into China. By May 2015, EJM was managing 208 aircraft in the U.S., seven in Europe via subsidiary EJM Europe, and two in China under the EJM China brand.

In January 2019, EJM launched its Ascend flat-rate charter program; a $100,000 deposit guarantees Ascend customers access to any cabin class in the EJM fleet with 24 hours’ booking notice.

In late 2020, EJM opened operations centers in San Jose, California, and Denver for flight operations, fleet maintenance, aircraft management, and charter sales.

EJM and its employees have received many FAA maintenance awards since 1994, among them 13 Diamond Awards of Excellence and three Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Awards.

The company manages more than 41,500 flights for 86,000 passengers visiting about 120 countries annually.
