All Survive Cape Air Cessna 402 Crash in Massachusetts

The Cape Air Cessna 402 that ran off the end of the runway on September 9 at Provincetown Municipal Airport in Massachusetts caught fire after the crash and sent the seven occupants to a hospital. Officials reported no fatalities, but the airframe suffered what the National Transportation Safety Board called substantial damage.

The accident happened at 3:30 p.m. local time after a scheduled IFR flight from Boston Logan Airport. The NTSB told BJT sister publication AIN in a statement that recovery crews would take the wreckage to an identified facility for further examination on September 11.

NTSB investigators will request radar data, weather information, air traffic control communication, airplane maintenance records, and the pilot’s medical records, according to the safety board’s statement.

Cape Air did not respond to AIN's request for comment after issuing a brief statement confirming that Flight 2072 “exited” the runway and carried six passengers and a pilot.
