Sustainable Aviation Fuel Now Available At L.A. FBO

The 30 percent SAF blend at Atlantic Aviation costs about $9.89 a gallon, compared with $8.68 for jet-A.

Atlantic Aviation is now offering sustainable aviation fuel for retail sale at its Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) FBO. “We are excited to announce LAX as the first Atlantic Aviation FBO to offer retail SAF, given its location…as a West Coast destination for our clients,” said Richard Thacker, the service provider’s director of operational strategy. “We are dedicated to carbon reduction, the implementation of sustainable fuel, and progress toward carbon neutrality more broadly.” A spot price check on Airnav shows the FBO listing the 30 percent SAF blend at $9.89 a gallon, compared with $8.68 for jet-A.

Citi's Ford von Weise warns that lending will be restricted, more regulations will be implemented if bizav doesn't respond sufficiently to climate change.

The location began receiving SAF shipments last year. According to Thacker, the renewable fuel blend “was essentially replacing a portion of the supply of our normal jet-A inventory, with Atlantic underwriting the cost.” Likewise, the Atlantic FBO at Las Vegas Harry Reid International received SAF deliveries last October to fuel aircraft returning from NBAA-BACE.

SAF, which is currently blended with conventional jet-A, offers lifecycle carbon emissions reductions compared with 100 percent fossil fuels. When available for use in its unblended form, it has the potential to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80 percent.

Atlantic’s KLAX location last year also completed its switch to 100 percent biodiesel for its own ground service equipment, as well as for sale to other equipment operators on the field.
